I have been exposed to various groups of Christian bands and numerous types of Christian music. But MercyMe gave me a new perspective after hearing their songs played by my officemate on his PC. It was indeed a new experience because the tempo is so different and you really have to look into the lyrics to know the meaning and what the song is telling mes. I am convinced that MercyMe band is playing a different yet special role in reaching out the world through music. Get to know Mercyme Band and their unique style of rendering heavenly music.

MercyMe Band – Formed and Founded

It was sometime in 1994, in Greenville, Texas, when MercyMe Band was formed and founded. MercyMe is an American contemporary Christian band consists of vocalist Bart Millard, keyboardist James Bryson, percussionist Robin Shaffer, bassist Nathan Cochran and guitarists Michael Scheuchzer and Barry Graul.

MercyMe started at releasing six albums and then signed with INO Records sometime in 2001. MercyMe band gained worldwide recognition with their crossover single, “I can only Imagine” also served as debut album as a group. “I can Only Imagine” album became a certified double platinum which inspired them more than ever resulting to releasing five additional albums. Three of the five albums are certified gold, and considered to be the greatest hits album.

MercyMe’s dedication to their work resulted to winning numerous Dove Awards plus various Grammy Award nominations. Another historic accomplishments of the group was the 2009 Billboard Magazine’s Award as the Christian Songs Artist of the Decade for the 2000s. Amazingly, MercyMe’s song “Word of God Speak” was awarded as the Christian Song of the Decade. MercyMe was also unanimously named as The Christian Adult Contemporary Songs Artist of the Decade which is a result of the group having 22 number one songs ending 2009, and six of these songs were ranked in the top 50 songs of the decade. Whew! A blessing indeed!

MercyMe Band – Formation and Early years

MercyMe’s lead singer is Bart Millard. Bart wanted to follow the footsteps of his father Arthur Millard, an All-American football player. Bart’s dream, however, was stopped when he injured his ankles in a football game during his high school days. The incident resulted him to take choir as an elective subject. After the death of his father during his college years, Bart Millard was invited to join a youth group’s band and started as in-charge of the video and sound systems. When the group’s leadsinger got stuck on stage, Millard took the opportunity to become the lead singer of the group. The group then went to Switzerland together James (Jim) Bryson who played the piano. The trip triggered Millard and Bryson to consider playing music in full-time capacity. MercyMe band then was formed together with Millard’s friend, guitarist Mike Scheuchzer. The band was formed in the heart of Oklahoma City. The trio recordings started in a makeshift studio, a converted day-care center. They joined afterwards by Nathan Cochran and Robby Shaffer who played bass and drums respectively.

The band later on released six independent albums then signed with INO Records in 2001. By the way, “MercyMe”, the band’s name orginated when Bart was still in a youth ministry in Florida. It was a word by his grandmother whenever she called him exclaiming “Well mercy me, why don’t you get a real job?”

MercyMe – Almost There, Spoken For and Undone (2001-2004)

MercyMe released its first major debut album under INO Records “Almost There”. The single of this album “I Can Only Imagine” won Golden Dove Award in 2002 for song of the year. The album started slow because only after three years of its release, it began to gain mainstream success, topping the billboard 2000 sales chart, reaching the peak of the adult contemporary charts and the U.S. Country Charts, and pushing to the limit Almost There to being certified double platinum. It was when the father of Bart Millard died of cancer, the song was made – it was a time of personal pain for the bands lead singer.

Another milestone was reached by MercyMe in 2002, when they released their sophomore release, Spoken For. Indeed, blessings are flowing unstoppable for the group when the album’s two singles, “Spoken For” and “Word of God Speak” became #1 hits on Christian radio station charts. Spoken for was certified gold. The group proudly explained that album’s theme is entrenched on the belief that is God has a reserved place for those who have a genuine relationship with him as illustrated in the artwork found on the cover of the album cover and cd booklet of reserved parking place in a garage, symbolically contribute to communicating the theme. The fruit of their labour unexpectedly came again when the album earned them three dove awards.

It was in 2003 when another asset came into the picture guitarist Barry Graul joined MercyMe, and it’s a perpect timing for him to be a part of the bands third studio album, Undone.

In 2004, another milestone of the group’s career reached as they bannered the “Imagine Tour”. Joining them are multi-awarded fellow Christian artists Amy Grant and Bebo Norman.

Aside from bannering the “Imagine Tour”, MercyMe released their major label album, “Undone” which in turn produced two Top 10 hits: “Here With Me” and “In the Blink of an Eye”. The former hit Billboard’s Top 100 chart that same year, and the former as of the end of 2005, was at #5 on R&R’s top Christian hits. “undone” also includes the song “Homesick”, which also gained notice by Christian and mainstream stations. “Homesick” was motivated by a difficult four-or five-week period where member of the band had a total of eight loved ones went home to our Maker in heaven. Believing that heaven is one’s ultimate home, “Homesick” was made with the longing that one day, the people they lost are in that home welcoming them joyfully and full of tears.

On June 22, 2004, J. Countryman, a division of Thomas Nelson, closed a deal with MercyMe band to release a gift book based on their song “I Can Only Imagine”.

MercyMe – The Christmas Sessions and Coming Up To Breathe (2005-2006)

On September 27, 2005, MercyMe released a Christmas album of their own “The Christmas Sessions.” The album was recorded after a tour with Jeremy Camp, The Afters and Monk and Neagle as a support of their album, “Undone.” The album was the band’s first attempt to reinstate itself publicly as a Christian comtemporary rock band, commencing a breakthrough for their album “Coming Up To Breathe”. The band teamed up for a tour with Steven Curtis Chapman, who also released a Christmas album that year titled “All I Really Want for Christmas,” which was stimulated by Chapman’s heartfelt observation of the life of many stray children in the world waking up without a family during Christmas seasons.

It was in 2006 when MercyMe released “Coming Up To Breathe,” which settled at no. 13 on the Billboard 2000. Although the band had already gained a status for being an adult contemporary group with their other albums, the group was still determined to make “Coming Up To Breathe” a rock album. To sustain the album, MercyMe bannered the “Coming Up To Breathe Tour” with Audio Adrenaline on its send-off tour and Phil Wickham, unbelievably seeing almost 50% of their shows sell out two weeks into the tour.”Coming Up To Breathe Tour” had three singles, “So Long Self”, “Coming Up To Breathe”, and “Hold Fast”.

MercyMe – All That is Within Me, Coming Up To Breathe: Acoustic, and 10 (2007-2009)

It was on November 20, 2007 when MercyMe released “All That Is Within Me.” Lead singer Bart Millard had believed that “All That is Within Me” was going to be a worship album with half of the songs being cover songs and the other half original songs; but the band ended up having written all the songs found in this album. “All That is Within Me” included three singles, “God With Us”, “You Reign” and “Finally Home”, which gained both Christian and mainstream success. Like “I Can Only Imagine” and “Homesick”, “Finally Home” in reference to Millard’s father’s death. Fashionably, the song has a train like kind of atmosphere to it, which Millard has said was the type or breed of music his dad used to listen to.

It was in 2008 when the band again released “Coming Up To Breathe:” Acoustic, an acoustic version of their earlier release, “Coming Up To Breathe.”

And then, on April 7, 2009, MercyMe released their first greatest hits compilation, 10 (the title refers to the decade since “I Can Only Imagine” was written). The package includes a CD with 11 hits and 3 new recordings (including a new version of “I Can Only Imagine” recorded with the London Session Orchestra), and a DVD with 11 music videos and two short documentary pieces.

MercyMe Band in Charity Works and The Go Foundation

MercyMe Band is only good at singing because sometime in 2005, the group participated in a benefit concert at Belmont University with various other country, gospel and contemporary Christian artists for the people affected by the Asian Tsunami. Also in 2009, MercyMe carried out ‘Rock and Worship Roadshow’ tour in partnership with Compassion International and Imagine A Cure in order to raise money to help kids with diabetes through Imagine A Cure and people with medical needs around the world through Compassion International.

Among the songs found of MercyMe’s eleventh album, “Coming Up To Breathe,” is a song titled “I Would Die For You” which was said to be made in dedication to BJ Higgins, a young boy who sealed a deal with Bubonic Plague on the mission fields of Peru. From that time on, “I Would Die For You” has been used to raise money for The Go Foundation, which was born out of Higgins’ death at an early age.

MercyMe Band in a Tour Bus Accident

Rough time is no longer new for Christian band MercyMe when one time, their tour bus suffered fatal collision with acar in Indiana On Saturday, August 8, 2009 at approximately 1:15 am in Fort Wayne, Indiana while on their way to perform in a tour concert. It was reported that MercyMe tour bus was traveling through an intersection on a green light when an oncoming passenger vehicle made a left turn on red into the path of the oncoming tour bus which resulted in a collision killing two passengers of the car and the unborn baby of the vehicle’s driver. MercyMe was to perform at Six Flags St. Louis but the park issued a statement saying the show was cancelled and rescheduled because the band was “involved in a vehicle accident in Indiana.” There are news reports saying that the band remained quiet during the days after the crash, not contacting the family of the deceased and injured, but on the contrary, MercyMe did release a statement through publicist Velvet Rousseau Kelm the same day as the crash: “MercyMe would like to express their incredible heartache over this horrible accident. They are praying for the families of all who this will affect, and are asking others to please pray as well. The band and crew sustained minor bumps and bruises, however their hearts are heavy. They appreciate the concern they have received from people all over the world.”

Politicians are reminded to give their relatives and friends an advise to act with extreme caution following the controversy surrounding presidential aspirant’s sister and celebrity Kris Aquino’s marriage with cager James Yap. Kris is the youngest sister of Noynoy Aquino, 2010 election presidential candidate.

This unsolicited advice is from Congressman Raymond Palatino in relation to the alleged confrontation of Kris Aquino to a certain Mayen Austria, an avid fan of her husband and Purefoods Team mythical member James Yap.

“This incident is a lesson to all politicians or aspiring to be one, to talk to all relatives, immediate family, to think twice on all their actuations because every move, good or bad, right or wrong, will be totally associated to them as candidates,” said Palatino.

Rep. Palatino also said in that weekly press conference of the minority bloc of the House of Representatives, “as a former presidential daughter, Kris should know that no matter how personal her activities are, it will be somehow associated with her relatives in politics.”

Palatino was referring to a reported incident telling Kris made an unethical scene outside the house of Mayen Austria in a subdivision in Pasig City, several blocks away from Yap’s house. However, in a TV interview, Kris clarified that the scene is not confrontational but a mere “peaceful conversation” with Mayen’s mother regarding Mayen’s “behaviour or actuations” towards her husband James Yap.

Kris Aquino, daughter of the late Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. and late president Corazon Aquino, is an actress-TV host, commercial model, and an award-winning local movie film. She was once played a title role in “Mano Po” movie that won awards in Metro Manila Film Festival.

Kris already moved out of their house together with her two sons – Josh and Baby James – and now staying in her sister Pinky’s house in order for her and James to have a “space” with the hope that this will end in a sweet manner.

Presidential aspirant’s sister, actress and celebrity Kris Aquino admitted that she went to the house of Mayen Austria, an avid fan of her husband James Yap, but denied that it was a confrontational scene, and no cursing and no commotion happened as reported in the news.

Kris further said in a text message to GMA TV News, that in her 25 years of being in the public eye, she can say that it is in not her nature to utter bad words or create scandals. She also denied shouting or created commotion when she conversed with Mrs. Austria.

On Friday, Kris Aquino already made the statement after a local newspaper (PDI) reported that she insulted and shouted at Mayen Austria and her mother outside their house in a subdivision in Pasig City, a few blocks away from Kris and James’ house.

Kris further explained, “I simply made my discomfort known about her daughter’s actuations towards my husband.” She went on to say that Mayen admitted in the text to having clinical depression and could easily take an “overdose of pills.”

Following the advise of her sisters and brother Noynoy Aquino – 2010 presidential aspirant – Kris will no longer give further comment on the issue.

When contacted by phone by GMA News, Mrs. Austria decided not to add comment anymore so that the issue will not make it any bigger.

Actress-celebrity and TV personality Kris Aquino today said she, together with her two sons – Josh and Baby James – are moving out of the house she is sharing with James Yap, Purefoods cager, in order to have some “space” following the current controversy putting their marriage into jeopardy. They will temporarily stay in her sister Pinky.

In a TV program, The Buzz aired over ABS-CBN Sunday afternoon, Kris, clarified however that their marriage is not yet over, and that she want the marriage to work for their kids. She is not putting a period yet and she’s not saying the end of the road.

Kris Aquino then told the real score of all these controversies: a woman called her husband James on his cellphone and she overheard Austria crying while she was talking.

“When he answered, I heard a girl crying. I could hear their conversation because it was quiet in the house,” she said. James went on to say that Austria was having problems with her love life.

“Sabi ni James nagsabi sa kanya na iniwan daw ng isang guy and ‘di alam ang gagawin.’ I asked James if he knew the guy, he said no. And so I was surprised, I said why she’s calling you and crying out to you? I pointed out to James it was not proper,” she said.

Kris admitted going to Austria’s house, which happened to be a couple of blocks away from house in Valle Verde 2 in Pasig City, but denied insulting and shouting her. “I ever uttered bad words and insults. I just expressed my displeasure,” Kris elaborated.

Kris went on to say that the conversation was not confrontational because she was “very calm” when she talked with Mayen Austria’s mother.

Kris Aquino is appealing to the public not to use this incident as an issue to “politically attack” her brother Noynoy Aquino, a leading presidential aspirant on May 10, 2010 Philippine National Election.

LRD ( Little Red Dress ) Making Trouble In Brazil? It all started when a college student named Geisy Arruda, a 20-year-old studying tourism at the Bandeirante University, known as Uniban, near Sao Paulo got sensationalized of wearing a long-sleeved rose-colored dress yet revealing because it’s barely stretched past mid-thigh. Several students harassed and heckled her wearing the LRD ( little red dress ). Several videos using mobile phones and amateur recordings swarmed the internet.

It was said that Arruda was expelled from the university not because of the LRD (little red dress ) problem alone but because of Arruda’s misbehavior. Decio Machado, attorney for Uniban, said Arruda was being provocative, hiking up her LRD little red dress, twirling around on a ramp and entering a classroom so students would catcall at her, from the newspaper O Globo. Which Arruda denied.

She was expelled from the university but after a public outcry of protest and counter protest, Arruda would be readmitted. The decision was not merely to please the public, and is not an admission of a mistake but the university chose an educational stance instead of a disciplinary one. Educational stance? or for public conformity?

I was really surprised about this outrage reaction. Not only from the students but also from the university. I could say that this is definitely inhuman. The first thing that has entered my mind after reading the headline news was that, Isn’t this country the one who are so fond of wearing “bikinis”? All i thought was those people who polluted my mind. Isn’t the place where transexuals go? Or where there are plenty of them? I’m sorry for that wrong impression and that i forgot this country is a catholic country.

For Arruda who had set a fashion style in her school by wearing her LRD (little red dress ). I’m sorry gal, it was just not the perfect place. Or maybe the public is not ready yet. Not ready yet? I must admit i really can’t accuse Arruda of misbehaving or is guilty of any malicious act because it might be her way of expressing her fashion style. And besides the country isn’t Arabic that it would require its people of what they are supposed to wear. Or is the university a Catholic school run by nuns? If yes maybe i’ll understand but if not i guess it’s too much.

The lawmen also recovered several bullet proof vest, a bolt cutter and sledgehammer tools used in opening safes and steel cages.

Gang leader, Alvin Flores’ “face-Off” drama started when he contracted a certain Dr. Dominador Pedracio, a licensed cosmetic surgeon and owner of Clinica de Antipolo, It was Dr Pedracio who operated Flores and altered his features. Alvin Flores was so clever to have a thinking such as this. He hid himself as John Carlo Cruz Chavez, fooled the surgeon to be a closet homosexual, and had told him that he wanted to have his features altered so that he would look more feminine. If these law enforcers will only do what whey are supposed to do. If they are just responsible, enough to be more skilled, enthusiastic, and be highly spirited with their oath then more of their actions would be more successful to stop the works of these lawless men.

A soldier suspected of shooting at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday is alive the base’s commander said Thursday evening.  Fort Hood shooting left 43 casualties resulted into 12 fatalities and wounding 31. The suspect, who was identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, is a graduate of Virginia Tech and a psychiatrist licensed in Virginia who was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood. Hasan was born in Virginia and is said to be a U.S. citizen of Jordanian descent. Hasan is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq and one of the things that might have upset him was that he was never deployed outside the United States.

Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan for sure was in the soundest of his mind when he entered his job to the time he was assigned for Iraq. It might be the thought of being away from his family for the very first time that caused his violence. Like Maj. Hasan we all experienced it ourselves. STRESS! It all started from this simple 6 letter word which when not properly addressed would definitely turn your world upside down.

We can’t deny the fact that stress is a part of our everyday lives because we are living and not merely existing. Everyone is subjected to various degrees of stress no matter what age, gender, nationality and occupation. Stress is the feeling created in response to certain adverse circumstances. Excessive worrying causes the initial tension. Tense muscles, headaches and insomnia are just among the many symptoms that stress manifests. We are stressed by the pressures of our jobs. We also are stressed by the people who put pressure on us. We too are stressed by family obligations.

GAS (General Adaptation Syndrome )of Hans Selye says Exhaustion is the third and final stage in the GAS model. At this time, all of the body’s resources are eventually used up and the body is unable to maintain normal function. At this point the initial autonomic nervous system symptoms may reappear (sweating, raised heart rate etc.). If this stage is extended, long term damage may result as the capacity of glands, especially the adrenal gland, and the immune system is exhausted and function is impaired which will result in decompensation.

In psychiatry, decompensation is the inability to maintain defense mechanisms in response to stress, resulting in personality disturbance or psychological imbalance. It can refer to the deterioration of mental health in a patient with previously maintained psychiatric illness, leading to a diminished ability to think and carry on daily activities. Experts consider it is harmful because if not arrested early enough, stress can lead to poor mental health and some serious diseases like heart disease and cancers.

Hamburgers i guess has already gained its popularity worldwide as it became one of the favorite foods,  loved not only by children but by young people to the aged ones. This wouldn’t be a surprise because the food is somewhat considered a complete food since it comprises of not only carbs but it has protein and some vitamins and minerals from the veggies. Hamburgers originated from The U.S. but today its not only the Americans who loved this popular food but also is being loved by almost all people around the world. In India while most of the people are purely vegan hamburgers are also in the list of their fast foods menus. ( Burgers are made with chicken instead ). A healthier option i guess.

Hamburgers aren’t hard to find for they can be located in almost every corner of the street. In some countries where the influence of the Americans are great it is most likely that burger stores, stands and fast food chains are scattered. People like us who has already used to eating this kind of stuff has somehow helped us in our daily lives. When schedules are so tight we can just give a ring to our favorite fast food chain and viola!, we can have our lunch or dinner or a midnight snack in an instant. Or whenever snacking out is required or just snacking for fun burgers are just the perfect meal for everyone because its not only done in minutes but is also budget friendly.

Now after some talks on burgers, let’s take a look on the connection of hamburgers to E. Coli poisoning. What is E. Coli? E. coli is a bacterium that settles in animal intestines, cattle in particular. E. coli is generally quarantined to the intestines. but bacterium may spread to other areas if the intestines are punctured during slaughter. People of all ages can be infected with E.Coli, but children and the older ones are affected more severely because of a low immune system.

E. coli symptoms are very similar to other gastrointestinal conditions. Upon seeing these signs and symptoms it is a wise decision to have yourself checked by a health professional especially a medical doctor at once to prevent those deadly complications. Complications from E. coli poisoning may include anemia, Hemolytic uremic syndrome, kidney failure, and dehydration.

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is one of the dreadful complications that occurs once a child has been infected with E. coli bacteria. Little children with ages 10 and below are primarily affected. This is a serious condition that could lead to kidney failure. Similar to E. coli poisoning, there is no cure for Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The disease must be allowed to run its course. Sadly, there is little that can be done to stop the disease from progressing. Hemolytic Uremic syndrome is life-threatening, thus children will require round-the-clock monitoring. In more acute cases, patients undergoes blood transfusion or kidney dialysis. Kidney failure is another dreadful complication of E. Coli bacteria poisoning. Kidney failure is an extremely serious complication of E. coli poisoning.
Stool samples are required to confirm diagnosis. Early indicators of kidney failure include fatigue and problems urinating. This condition must not be left untreated because it will worsen and cause more grave symptoms such as seizures, loss of consciousness, vomiting, and irreversible coma.

Dehydration is also a fatal complication of the E. Coli bacteria poisoning. Since diarrhea is so much involved in E. Coli bacteria poisoning it is just wise to watch out water loss from the body. Water loss is monitored from the waste that goes out of the body through the vomitus, urine and fecal products. Replenishing the body with liquids is vital to recovery. Soup, juices and water can be given to rehydrate the body. Signs of dehydration include dry mouth, tongue, infrequent urination, dry skin, and confusion. And though dehydration seemed to be insignificant compared to those fatal complications mentioned above bear in mind that severe dehydration requires hospitalization since when left untreated it poses a high risk of fatality.

Reports said that 2 dead, 28 sick from E. Coli outbreak in some cities in America. These are the things we should do to prevent E. Coli poisoning.
1. Make sure that milk and juices consumed are pasteurized.
2. Getting into a habit of washing fruits and vegetables prior to eating.
3. Public pools and beaches also put us at risk for E. coli poisoning. So kids should be properly advised to avoid
ingesting the water.
4. Washing of hands thoroughly especially after every visit to the C.R. because E. coli bacteria may be passed
through fecal matter.
5. Beef should be cooked thoroughly.
Hamburger lovers must take so much precaution especially the young and the older ones. For the moment perhaps avoidance is the best thing to do till all beef are cleared from E.Coli bacteria contamination. If avoidance is not possible, then just make sure you have your burgers overly done to avoid the disease.

As a little girl way back some 30 yrs ago, I came across the term Afghan through our little way of helping our parents in earning a living. As a 9 years old girl I used to earn some penny by engaging in our village some sort of a livelihood project which is crocheting. Adults, young ladies and even little girls like us were encouraged to learn and used this opportunity to get some money that might help us buy some necessities. As a young kid, I’ve learned to do this stuff not only of necessity but because a lot of people were doing it and it was some kind of making your self “belong” to people. By the way, the term Afghan was referred to the crocheted mattress that we were making which  I believe were for export to Afghanistan.

Afghan girls burn themselves to escape marriage: This caption has somehow caught my attention. Reports says that where the tradition of child or forced marriages runs strong it is also where girls and young women between the ages 13 and 25, often from poor, uneducated backgrounds are the most likely to practice “self-immolation”. The practice comes from Iran, where many Afghan refugees had fled to during war with the Soviet Union from 1979 through 1989. And the practice of self-immolation has been so popular and spread among Afghan women especially among the poor and uneducated.

Dr. Mohamed Aref Jalali, the director of the burns unit in Herat Hospital said that the reason behind all these is forced marriage,  wherein young girls below 16 are already force to marry. According to some source arranged marriage is very rampant for economic reasons. Parents often force their girls to marry at a very young age, to marry even a man with more than 2 to 3 decades older for security reasons. Parents of these “poor” girls opt in this activity thinking that the future of their girls are already secured and had put them in a safer and convenient life. Not fully aware of the lifelong consequence of their “ignorant decision” and the destruction of their kids’ life through brutal treatment that they might be going through.

It is because of these domestic violence being done not only by the husband but by the whole members of the family, it is because of these unforgivable words and deeds that made these girls succumb into this horrible self-immolation practice. Domestic violence is prevalent because this rude people believe that wives from forced and arranged marriages were there “only to wash, to clean, to give baby … and nothing more”. Sacrificing the pain of the mortal body and agony of the spirit to escape such tragedy that parents themselves had done. To these poor girls who’d suffered this fate life is almost synonymous to death. When hopelessness had entered their whole being and living means dying then committing suicide is an easy thing.
